SARAH J. FASHENA is a Scientific Advisor with technical expertise in genetics, immunology, oncology and neuroscience. Dr. Fashena received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the State University of New York at Purchase in 1984, and a Masters of Science and an M.Ph. in 1987, and a Ph.D. in 1992, in Immunobiology from Yale University.

Following the completion of her academic studies in 1992, she became a post-doctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology, where she remained until 1997. Her research at this time was focused on developmental neurobiology, biochemistry, and intracellular signalling, and particularly, protein tyrosine phosphatase. During this time, she was awarded a neurobiology training grant (1992-1993) and an American Cancer Society post doctoral fellowship (1994-1997). She then began a fellowship at the Fox Chase Cancer (1997-2000). While at Fox Chase, Dr. Fashena's research focused on intracellular signalling pathways that impact on cellular motility and carcinogenesis. She also developed expertise with yeast two-hybrid assays and techniques.

Dr. Fashena then joined an intellectual property firm in Philadelphia, PA, where she participated in patent prosecution, including preparation and filing of patent applications, amendments and responses to PTO Office Actions, client counseling on questions of patentability and of new technology; legal research on questions regarding freedom to operate and preparation of freedom to operate opinions.
